All the backup data is stored in the CeeJay Cloud which are CrashPlan servers at ultra secure locations in Europe (UK and Amsterdam) which are managed by CeeJay Software and Code42 Software.
With CrashPlan in the CeeJay Cloud, you have totally unlimited cloud backup storage, including unlimited file sizes and unlimited version retentions.
We use 448-bit Blowfish encryption to secure your files on your computer, even before they’re backed up; this ensures that only you can access your files. Compliant with European Union Data Protection Directive (EUDPD), which states cloud backup providers are required to ensure all backed up data is only stored in Europe. This way you know we’re trustworthy, safe, and secure to use.
Backups take place once every 15 minutes to make sure your data is always backed up. Backups can also be set to run when you are away from your desk or when you are sleeping, as long as the computer is switched on and online.
Information is compressed before the backup is sent, with data de-duplication even repeated information within a file, as well as across all files, is not backed up unnecessarily.
CrashPlan by default keeps all versions of your files, to allow you to go back in time to restore a file from various different versions. By default CrashPlan also never removes deleted files from the backup archive.
Remotely manage CrashPlan installations by using our web admin console to check the status of the backup on each computer or push changes out to all your computers as a batch. Users can remotely manage their own backup settings and preform a web restore when using the web console.
CrashPlan allows you to view the backup activity and statistics in real time. No waiting for reports to run, you get live data as and when it happens. Users and administrators can receive daily or weekly backup reports and alerts by email. We offer a lot of choice and a lot of flexibility.
CrashPlan can backup files and folders on attached drives or to other local or network drives at the same time as the cloud backup.
Groups of files can be sent to the cloud or to local backup locations or even contain different backup settings.
Bandwidth controls can be set to limit the speed available to CrashPlan to prevent the system using all your allowance. WiFi and network device exclusion lists also allow you to stop CrashPlan running on networks that you do not want to use. e.g you can prevent CrashPlan using a 3G or 4G data connection.
You have the choice and freedom to ensure the safety of your files, whilst still remaining within any limits set by your ISP.
LDAP authentication can be setup for organisations with their own LDAP server.
On Apple OSX you can back up open files. On Windows Microsoft’s Volume Shadow Copy Service is used or CrashPlan will wait until the file becomes available.
Administrators can lock down settings, and also set defaults for devices or users inside their organisation.
Users can restore files on their own at anytime they wish without needing assistance from an IT department or support provider.
The new Legal Hold feature will be available in CrashPlan version 5, sometime during 2016.
